If you want to keep Outlook 2010 clean and run faster, one method is to set up the AutoArchive feature. Today we show you how to configure and manage the feature in Outlook 2010.

Using AutoArchive allows you to manage space in your mailbox or on the email server by moving older items to another location on your hard drive.

Enable and Configure Auto Archive

In Outlook 2010 Auto Archive is not enabled by default. To turn it on, click on the File tab to access Backstage View, then click on Options.

The Outlook Options window opens then click on Advanced then the AutoArchive Settings button.

The AutoArchive window opens and you’ll notice everything is grayed out. Check the box next to Run AutoArchive every…

Note: If you select the Permanently delete old items option, mails will not be archived.

Now you can choose the settings for how you want to manage the AutoArchive feature. Select how often you want it to run, prompt before the feature runs, where to move items, and other actions you want to happen during the process. After you’ve made your selections click OK.

Manually Configure Individual Folders

For more control over individual folders that are archived, right-click on the folder and click on Properties.

Click on the AutoArchive tab and choose the settings you want to change for that folder. For instance you might not want to archive a certain folder or move archived data to a specific folder.

If you want to manually archive and backup an item, click on the File tab, Cleanup Tools, then Archive.

Click the radio button next to Archive this folder and all subfolders. Select the folder you want to archive. In this example we want to archive this folder to a specific location of its own.

The .pst files are saved in your documents folder and if you need to access them at a later time you can.

After you’ve setup AutoArchive you can find items in the archived files. In the Navigation Pane expand the Archives folder in the list. You can then view and access your messages.

You can also access them by clicking the File tab \ Open then Open Outlook Data File.

Then you can browse to the archived file you want to open.

Archiving old emails is a good way to help keep a nice clean mailbox, help speed up your Outlook experience, and save space on the email server. The other nice thing is you can configure your email archives and specific folders to meet your email needs.

Go in to your computers BIOS (Usually F1, del or etc key on post) and make sure the option “Boot to usb / boot to usb floppy / Boot to usb zip” is enabled. If this option is not in the BIOS don’t worry, some computers enable it by default. Next take a look at the computers boot list and make sure that the usb drive is set to the #1 position.

Method 1 – Simple Method to Make a usb Thumb Drive Bootable

By far the easiest way to create a bootable usb thumb drive is to use a program from hp called “HP Drive Key Boot Utility”

Step 1 : Download from HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool – v2.1.8 Download – EXTREME Overclocking and install the program.

Step 2 : Download the windows 98 system files @ Windows 98 System Files Download – EXTREME Overclocking extract the files in to a folder.

Step 3 : Make sure your usb thumb drive is inserted in to your computer and format it with fat32 file system. Now run the HP drive key program.

Step 4 : Make sure the correct usb thumb drive is selected under device, Select fat32 under file system, Tick “Quick Format” box, Tick “Create a DOS startup disk” then click on the three dots in the square on the right and browse to the folder where you extracted the windows 98 system files in step 2. Then click on start and follow the prompts. (All the options you need to take are shown in the picture below.

Now if you put the usb thumb drive in your system and boot to it your system will boot to a windows 98 dos screen which will include a few basic programs such as edit, print, echo. If you want to add more programs search the web for such programs.

Method 2 – Create an MS-DOS Bootable usb Thumb Drive

This bootable usb thumb drive is similar to the bootable drive described in method 1.

Step 1 : Download a program called unetbootin UNetbootin – ISO to Bootable USB Drive | Make Bootable Disks Extract the file and double click on the .exe file and you will get a screen like the one below.

Step 2 : Download the .iso file for ms-dos. You can get that from here AllBootDisks ISO Image Downloads | AllBootDisks – Providing Free Boot Disks from MS-DOS to Windows XP. this iso is for ms-dos 6.22, If you want to use another version of dos its not a problem, just get the iso of the version you want, try searching http://www.allbootdisks.com

Step 2 : Now you have the iso file go back to the unetbootin program and select the “Disk image” radio button, make sure “ISO” is selected then browse to your ISO (Shown in PIC above)

Step 3 : Once that is done make sure “USB Drive” is selected under type and the correct drive is selected under “Drive” Now double check all the settings and if you are ok with them hit the ok button.

Method 3 – Create a Multiple Anti-Virus Bootable usb Thumb Drive

If you had a bootable usb thumb drive with many different anti-virus programs this could be very handy in cleaning up infected pcs without connecting them to the network. You could scan the PCs with many different virus scanners before you connect the PC back to the network. We are going to make this multiple anti-virus bootable usb thumb drive with a program called Sardu, With this program we can include the following anti-virus scanners

-Avira AntiVir Rescue System -BitDefender antivirus Rescue
-Dr.Web Live
-PC Tool AOSS
-AVG Rescue
-F-Secure Antivirus Rescue
-GDATA Rescue
-Kaspersky
-Kav Rescue
-Panda Safe

Step 1 : Download Sardu from http://www.make-bootable-disks.com/d…/sardu-94.html and extract the file in to a folder. Now double click on the sardu.exe file and the program will load.

Step 2 : Click on the anti-virus tab, Put a tick in the box next to the anti-virus scanners you want to include. When you click on the name an internet window will open which will take you to the anti-viruses website where you can download the lastest anti-virus version from them. The file will be in .ISO format, save this .ISO file in to the ISO folder where the sardu.exe is located.

Step 3 : Close the Sardu program and reopen. When you reopen you will notice that there will be a tick in the box next to the virus scanner you just downloaded. Click on the disc icon to burn all the antivirus programs to a bootable .iso file.

Step 4 : Using a program called Unetbootin you can easily burn your ISO files to a usb device. Download unetbootin http://www.make-bootable-disks.com/d…-drive-13.html Extract the file and double click on the .exe file.

Step 5 : Select the “Disk image” radio button, make sure “ISO” is selected then browse to your ISO. Once that is done make sure “USB Drive” is selected under type and the correct drive is selected under “Drive” Now double check all the settings and if you are ok with them hit the ok button.

Method 4 – Create a bootable utility usb thumb drive

I am going to show you an easy way we can make a bootable utility usb thumb drive using Hirens boot CD. Hirens Boot CD Is probably the most popular utility boot disk around.

Step 1 : Download GRUB4DOS from http://www.hiren.info/download/dos-files/grub4dos.zip

Step 2 : Download USB Disk Storage Format from http://www.hiren.info/download/freew…/USBFormat.zip now run the program. Make sure the disk radio button is selected and select your usb thumb drive from the drop down menu. Under Part List make sure “Whole disk (MBR)” is selected from the drop down and click on refresh, Then click on install. All steps are shown in the pic below.

Step 3 : The usb thumb drive is now bootable, we need to add the utilities. Download hirens boot cd and extract all the files to the root of your usb thumb drive. Now copy the file “grldr” from the GRUB4DOS files and paste this file on the root of your usb thumb drive.

Method 5 – Create a bootable linux install usb thumb drive

This bootable usb thumb drive is similar to the bootable drive described in method 2.

Step 1 : Download a program called unetbootin http://www.make-bootable-disks.com/d…-drive-13.html Extract the file and double click on the .exe.

Step 2 : First thing we need to do is select the media source, We can use two sources “Distribution” or “ISO”. If you select the “Distribution” radio tab (Shown Below) you can then select the version of linux you want to install, The unetbootin program will then automatically download the version of Linux that you have selected. If you have an ISO file of the linux version you wish to install you can select the Disk image tab (shown below) then select ISO and browse to the ISO file and add it to the program.

Step 3 : Once that is done make sure “USB Drive” is selected under type and the correct drive is selected under “Drive” Now double check all the settings and if you are ok with them hit the ok button and follow the prompts.

1. Ensure the port 3101 TCP is open on the firewall (Outbound ONLY).

2. Create a new user called BESadmin and ensure you create a mailbox. Ensure this user is ONLY a member of “Domain users”

3. Make BESadmin a local Administrator of the server. This is done in AD via the “Built-in” Administrators group

4. Go to Admin Tools on open “Domain Controller Security Policy” and expand the “Local Policies” and “User Right Assignment”. You need to add BESadmin to “Log on Locally” and “log on as Service”.

5. Open Exchange System Manager and right mouse click on “DOMIANNAME (Exchange)” and select Delegate Control. Follow the steps and add BESadmin as an Exchange View Only Administrator.

6. In Exchange manager expand the servers folder and right mouse click on your server and select properties. On the properties windows select BESadmin and add the permissions “Administer Information Store, Receive As, Send As”

7. Open Active Directory and from the View menu select “Advanced Features”. Then go to each user that will be added to the BES and open their properties, go to the security tab and add the user BESadmin and add the security permission “Send As”. (This will overcome some MS patches that prevent BES sending emails)

8. Log on as BESadmin and install the BES software, normally you just install “BlackBerry Enterprise Server” as most sites don’t use the MDS services (MDS is a much heavier install). Follow the prompts of the install and the server will be required to restart half way through the install. Restart the server and log back on as BESadmin and the install will continue. (Make sure the Connect Test works and the SRP ID etc is validated during the install)

9. After the install is finished open BlackBerry Manager, an error will appear about MAPI client which you can just hit OK. The MAPI setting windows will appear so just add the server name back in and select “Check Name”, if it resolves just hit OK and the manager will start.

10. Within Blackberry Manager click on Blackberry Domain in the left column and then the users SERVERS tab in the center section, select your server within this tab and view the properties below. Ensure that “SRP Status:” is Connected (This can take a few minutes the first time so refresh the screen a few times). Once your status is connected you can start adding users.

11. Within Blackberry Manager click on you server name in the left column and then the users TAB in the centre section, just add a user and the click on that user. You will see all the users’ properties and a drop down menu called “Service Access” and select “Set Activation Password” and set a password of “a” for example.

12. Turn on you BlackBerry device and ensure Wireless is enabled. Go into “Options/Settings” and “Time & Date” and set the correct zone and time etc. Then from the home screen go to enterprise activation and enter the users email address and enter the password that was set in step 11. Press the track wheel and select Activate. Within a minute you should get data returned which indicates the process is functioning correct.

Note: Sites running SBS 2003 premium will need to change the BES “Web Server Listen Port” from 8080 to another available port (e.g. 8090 or 9090) as soon as it is installed. This port needs to be changed as the BES Web Server will be listening on the same port as ISA. To change this setting open Blackberry Manager, select MDS and then “edit Properties” and change the “Web Server Listen Port” to the desired port number.

a. Also ensure you review the IT Policy in BlackBerry Manager. This can be found in BlackBerry Domain > Global TAB > Edit properties. It is recommended that in the IT Policy you go into “Device Only Items” and set “Enable WAP config” to FALSE, this will force user to use the free browser (It uses the internet connection of your BES server). It is also highly recommended that you configure a password policy prior to rolling out any handhelds.

b. If you are unable to activate devices wirelessly you can test your connectivity to Blackberry buy running the following app from the command prompt:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Utility\BBSrpTest.exe

This will send a signal to BB and wait for a response, it this fails check your firewall settings (open and/or direct port 3101 TCP to you BES server)

c. If you have Domain Admins using BlackBerry devices you may have to run the following script if you are unable to send email for those users devices:

dsacls “cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=domainname,dc=c om ” /G “DOMAINNAME\BESadmin:CA;Send As”

Extra dsacls Command for Domain Admins / Power Users

I know this is an old thread, but it was invaluable to me in getting BES / BlackBerry Professional installed on several of my client’s SBS 2003 installs. Accordingly, I wanted to share an additional tip in hopes it will help someone else.

In addition to the dsacls command listed above, I had to run the following command on SBS installs where BB users were members of the Domain Admins or Power Users groups:

Code:

dsacls "cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=domainname,dc=com" /G "DOMAINNAME\BESadmin:GR;"

Before running this command, users in these groups were able to send (after running the other dsacls command above), however, they were not able to forward messages from their BlackBerry. Running this command allowed users in these groups to send and forward messages.

GA “PermissionBit” in the dsacls command above is “Generic Read”. Refer to the list below for other similar permissions:

GE: Generic Execute
GW: Generic Write
GA: Generic All

1) Firstly, check your services page. They should be set up as shown:SMB / CIFS server Enabled NFSv3 server Disabled HTTP / WebDAV server DisabledFTP server DisablediSCSI target server Disabled Rsync server Enabled UPS server Disabled LDAP server Disabled ACPI daemon Enabled iSCSI initiator EnabledIf not, enable or disable them to match this list.

2) Next, click on the SMB/CIFS Setup link on the “Services Section” Menu on the right. Enter the following data:
Server string: NASboxName (the name your OpenFiler will use to join the domain. In this case, NAS-F)NetBIOS name: NASboxName (again, the name your OpenFiler will use to join the domain. In this case, NAS-F)
Leave the rest of the settings as the default values.

3) Click the Rsync Setup link on the “Services Section” Menu on the right.
All you need to do here is use the IP address drop-down box to choose your network port. In this case it’s eth0 <==> 10.251.84.3 , the only choice.
4a) Here’s the slightly more complicated bit! Click the Accounts tab at the top and then choose Expert View below.
• Firstly, do NOT put a tick in the Use LDAP server box!
• For the LDAP settings,Root bind DN: adminusername@yourdomain.com (this is an admin password for your domain, in this case, admin@domain.local)Root bind password: password (the corresponding password for the account you entered above)
The rest of the LDAP settings should be as their defaults. Some of them are automatically added, such as server, and base DN

4b) Still in the Accounts Expert View, scroll down the page to the second part.
• Put a tick in the box labelled Use Windows domain controller and authentication.
• Select the appropriate Security model (Active Directory in this example)
• Domain/workgroup: domainname (for this example, simply “domain” without the “.local”)
• Domain controllers: domaincontrollername.domain.local (for this example, dc1.domain.local)
• ADS realm: domainname.something (for this example, domain.local)
• Leave the UID and GID ranges at their default values
• Join domain: selected
• Administrator username: adminusername (for this example, “admin” as used for LDAP but without the @domain.)
• Administrator password: password (the corresponding password for the above admin account)

4c) Still on the same page scroll past the next few boxes to the Authentication Configuration section. All settings should remain at default except:
• Select Use Kerberos 5
• Realm: domain.something (in this example, domain.local)
• KDC: yourdomaincontroller.domain.something (in this example, dc1.domain.local)
• Admin Server: yourdomaincontroller.domain.something (in this example, dc1.domain.local)

5) Click the big ol’ Submit button! Wait for a while, you should be able to see your users and groups populating after a few minutes. I took the opportunity of restarting the OpenFiler at this point too.
The next bit: Setting up a share

First of all the important bit is identifying your network to OpenFiler. This is the range of computers that you want to be able to access your OpenFiler box. This could be just the whole network (as is the case in this example), or, when you’ve got the hang of it, you can be a bit more exclusive, say just choosing admin-office computers. It all helps if your network is set up logically. Which mine isn’t.
1) On the System tab, under the Network Access Configuration heading, you need to make a new configuration line.
• Name: Give it a name to identify it (“MyLAN” in this example)
• Network/Host: This is the base address of your network, it could be 10.0.0.0 or 192.168.1.0 for basic networks. In my case it’s 10.251.84.0
• Netmask: Select your netmask to define your network. 255.255.255.0 ought to do it for a simple network. If your network isn’t simple you can use this to be more specific, I assume you know what you’re doing.
• Type: Easy. Select Share!
Click the Update button and your config data will appear as saved in the list.

2) Assuming your volumes are set up, partitioned and formatted as you want them, go to the Shares tab at the top. Your mounted volume(s) will appear in the list on that page. First of all here you need to create a folder to share.
• Click the name of your volume (“data” in this example), name your subfolder and click the Create Sub-folder button.

3) This will have created a new shared folder in the volume hierarchy. Click this new name (“Shared” in this example) and click the Make Share button. Your folder now gets the shared-folder icon.
This applies to any other folders you create too, but concentrate on just one for now.

4a) Click on the now-shared folder to take you to the Edit share window. This is where you apply permissons.
You don’t need to change the Share name, Share description or Override SMB/Rsync share name boxes.
• In the Share Access Control Mode you want to select Controlled Access (I assume you do anyway, this is why we’ve set it up Active directory!).
However, if you don’t want to control a particular folder, so that everyone has access to it, just choose Public guest access.

4b) Scroll down to the Group access configuration section. Here’s where the magic happens!
First of all here, you’ll find your list of Security Groups from Active Directory. Each group has four options to its right, as follows:
PG: the Primary Group. Every share needs to have one. This is comparable to the Folder Owner and should be set as the main security group that uses the share, or more commonly, the Domain Admins group.
NO: No Access. Exactly what it says on the tin, if your user group is selected in this group (as they all are by default) then every user in that group will be denied access to your group.
RO: Applies in the same way as NO but gives users in the appropriate group Read Only access.
RW: Gives users in the appropriate security group Read/Write access to all the files in this share.
• Set your shares according to how and who you want to access your files, and click the Update button beneath the Security groups list.
Ignore the Host access config for now, that’s in the next step.

4c) Once you’ve updated the Group Access Config above, scroll back down the Edit Share page to the Host access configuration section. This is what had me confused for a while, and why we set up the network at the beginning of this half of the guide!
You’ll notice in the screenshot that the MyLAN network is now listed with a bunch of options. It has the same selection of access rights as you set in the Security Groups above. The setting you need to change is for SMB/CIFS one.
• Under SMB/CIFS select the RW button. You’ll notice restart services automatically gets selected too. This is fine.
• If you want to set the other Service options while you’re here, feel free, but the above is all you need to do to get your share visible/usable in Windows.
• Click the Update button and wait while the settings are applied.
If all has gone well at this point, in Windows you can go to the Start > Run box and type \\NASboxName . This should list the OpenFiler’s shares for you to start using & mapping.
I hope this is helpful to someone! I’ve compiled it using all the settings above and all was tested along the way so it works as I’ve described.
